Tamil Trivia — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026
Applies to the "Tamil Trivia" mobile application (Android package com.prtrivia.app, iOS bundle com.prtrivia.app).

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Tamil Trivia app ("the app", "we", "us") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Tamil Trivia is operated by Pradeep (independent developer) ("the developer").

Tamil Trivia is a local-network group trivia game. It is designed around minimal data collection: you can install and play without creating an account, without providing an email address, and without giving any personal details.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Account identifier (anonymous by default)

When you first open the app, an anonymous account is created for you through our backend provider, Supabase. This is a random identifier. It is not linked to your name, email, phone number, or device contacts. Its only purpose is to associate any content packs you purchase with your account so they can be restored.

You may optionally choose to link a sign-in method (for example, to restore purchases on a new device). If you do, the associated email address is stored by our authentication provider solely for that sign-in purpose. You are never required to do this to play.

1.2 Purchase records

If you buy a content pack, the purchase is processed by Google Play (or the Apple App Store on iOS). We do not receive or store your payment card details. We do store, on our backend, a record of the transaction — the product purchased, the store-issued purchase token or transaction identifier, and your entitlement status — so that we can verify the purchase, unlock the content, restore it on other devices, and handle refunds or disputes.

1.3 Content and media downloads

When you download a content pack, the app requests the associated questions and media files from our backend storage over an encrypted connection. Standard server logs (such as request time and approximate volume) may be generated by our hosting provider to operate and secure the service and to detect abuse.

1.4 Information that stays on your device only

The following data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to us or to any third party:

1.5 Local multiplayer sessions

When you host or join a game over local Wi-Fi or a hotspot, gameplay information — such as the player names, answers, buzzer events, and scores for that session — is exchanged directly between the participating devices on your local network. This data does not pass through our servers and is not collected by us.

1.6 Device permissions

1.7 Advertising

If you have not made any purchase in the app, we show ads supplied by Google AdMob. To do this, the AdMob SDK accesses your device's advertising identifier and standard technical information (device type, operating system, general location inferred from IP, and ad-interaction events) to serve, cap, and measure ads. Where required by law (for example, in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland), a consent screen appears first, and on iOS the system "Allow tracking?" prompt is shown; until you consent, ads are non-personalized (served without building a profile of your interests).

Ads are removed entirely if you buy the one-time Remove ads purchase — on those devices no ad requests are made and no advertising identifier is accessed for advertising. Buying a question pack on its own does not remove ads.

Rewarded ads. Roughly every three minutes of play, revealing an answer (in Solo Play and, on the host's device, in Group Play) requires watching a short full-screen rewarded ad, served by Google AdMob under the same terms as above. You can also choose to watch a rewarded ad for an optional hint or to double your Solo Play score. Other players' devices in a Group Play game never show ads.

Google's use of data through the AdMob SDK is governed by the Google Advertising / Privacy & Terms. You can reset or limit your advertising ID in your device settings (Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking / Apple Advertising).

2. What we do not do

3. How we use information

4. Legal bases for processing

Where the EU / UK GDPR applies, we process the limited data above to perform our contract with you (providing the app and your purchases), and on the basis of our legitimate interests in securing the service and preventing abuse. Personalized advertising and any access to your advertising identifier for that purpose are processed only with your consent, collected through the consent screen described in Section 1.7; you can change or withdraw it at any time from the app's settings or your device settings.

5. Sharing with third parties

We share information only with service providers that operate the app on our behalf:

These providers process data under their own terms and only as needed to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

6. Data retention

7. Your choices and rights

8. Children's privacy

Tamil Trivia is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). The app is downloaded and purchased by an adult who hosts the game. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Data security

Data transmitted between the app and our backend is encrypted in transit (TLS). Authentication tokens are stored using the secure storage provided by your operating system (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we handle.

10. International data transfers

Our service providers may process and store data on servers located outside your country, including in regions with different data-protection laws. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change, and significant changes will be communicated through the app or the app store listing. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
